As a leader, do you struggle to find the time and space
for extended time in solitude?
Do you sometimes feel that your leadership is more
reactive to external pressures than responsive to the call
of God deep within?
Are you aware of wilderness places in your life as a
leader where you are longing for an encounter with God?
Are you facing challenges that require something more
than problem-solving, human striving, and hard work?
Many of us as Christian leaders understand (and even teach!) the importance of solitude and silence as
spiritual disciplines, but we find it difficult to be still in
God's presence.
Together we will explore the specific joys and challenges of a leader's journey into solitude and silence. Using the life of Moses as our guide, we will learn how the ongoing practice of solitude can become the primary discipline in which we:
- Move beyond the compulsions of the false self
and respond to God's calling deep within - Hear God's invitation to be still in the face of
the greatest challenges of leadership - Seek God in the wilderness places of our life
in leadership - Intercede for the people God has called us to
lead - Encounter the presence of God in ways that transform our vision of the Promised Land
Plan to devote two and a half days this summer to seek God in solitude and silence. In addition to providing teaching and guidance for extended time in solitude and silence, we will "pray the hours" in community. Retreat led by Transforming Center co-founders, Ruth Haley Barton and Joe Sherman.
